At Twin Rivers at Collin Creek, residents are finding that retirement isn’t about slowing down. Instead, it’s a chance to spend more time on what matters most.
Jim and Nancy’s story started over fifty years ago with a blind date set up by Nancy’s sister-in-law. Since then, they’ve shared 53 years of marriage, built a life in North Texas, and now enjoy a new chapter together filled with dancing, bingo nights, and friendships with neighbors who feel like family.
The pair chose our independent living community so they could stay near their Plano roots while leaving behind the responsibilities of homeownership. Now, they can focus on enjoying time together instead of worrying about house chores.
“It feels like we’re home, just without the constant to-do list,” the couple said. “We spend our time together, not fixing things.”
Fresh Starts That Bring Peace of Mind
Fellow Texas native Vicki arrived at Twin Rivers after spending most of her life in her Richardson home, following 29 years at Nortel Network, and over a decade volunteering at the local food pantry.
Her move to senior living came after encouragement from a workout partner who frequently spoke about the benefits of community living. When Vicki attended a presentation at the Plano Senior Center about the soon-to-open Collin Creek location, she decided it was time for a change.
Now that she no longer has to think about home ownership, moving to Twin Rivers has given Vicki a lifestyle focused on activities, wellness, and social connections. She spends her days going to fitness classes, relaxing by the pool in warm weather, and enjoying a busy social calendar she didn’t have before.
Vicki remembers one moment after she had settled in that confirmed she made the right choice. When she had a medical scare, the community responded right away, giving her reassurance and support.
“The support was incredibly comforting, and knowing they had my best interest at heart changed everything,” she said. “I feel like I can approach the office with anything.”
Her sons, Scott, who lives in Fresno, and Peter, who lives nearby in Plano, visit often, and Vicki’s new routine allows her to focus on enjoying life rather than managing repairs or maintenance.
Vicki has some simple advice for anyone thinking about making a similar move.
“Once you make up your mind, don’t look back, but look forward because you will have a great life here,” she said. “Fear is normal, but the worry of owning or maintaining a house is gone.”
